May 1, 2008-- East Aurora News "TREES MARK EARTHWEEK, ANNIVERSARY" By Julie Hadley
"Earth Week was a little greener this year in several Western New York communities, thanks to Earth Dimensions, Inc. The Environmental consulting firm located in Elma donated four species of Root Production Method trees to "the communities we work in," explained Donald Owens, senior soil scientist at Earth Dimensions. In all, 61 trees were planted across the area, including two each in Aurora and Elma. The donated trees include varieties of oak and tulip trees that will "grow faster and stronger," as Owens explained, because the root production method of cultivating trees involves cutting the side roots, forcing them to spread out. This helps the tree to "pull in nutrients faster," resulting in a handy tree that flowers more rapidly than a conventional planting. The trees were planted on Gleed Avenue and Pine Street in East Aurora, in front of Elma Town Hall, and at the Jamison Road Fire Hall. Earth Dimensions, Inc. donated the trees to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its incorporation, but Owens admits that the gift was reciprocated in ways he didn't expect. "What surprised me," he said, "was the response by the communities. They were elated! It's something we will always look back on."

April 24, 2008-- RE-TREE WNY "ARBOR DAY CELEBRATED BY OAK TREE PLANTING WITHIN WEST VILLAGE NEIGHBORHOOD OF BUFFALO"
"BUFFALO, NY - Re-Tree WNY will be celebrating Arbor Day this Friday April 25th at 1pm by planting an oak tree in front of the Historic Prospect Avenue Baptist Church within the West Village neighborhood of Buffalo. The trees has been donated by Earth Dimensions and will be planted near the intersection of Prospect and Carolina Streets to replace a tree planted by Re-Tree WNY that was destroyed by vandals in 2007. Re-Tree WNY will be represented by Justin Booth, a founding member of Re-Tree WNY board of directors and a local environmental activist. Mr. Booth stated, "Planting Trees has many benefits including cleaner air and reducing energy costs but what is also important is their ability to have a positive economic impact on streets, improve safety and enhance the social cohesiveness of our neighborhoods." Travis Morse, an Ecologist at Earth Dimensions, Inc. (EDI) stated that, "As a soils and environmental consulting firm located in Elma, New York, we are celebrating 30 years of serving Western New York and the surrounding areas. While some companies might mark the occasion with a lavish party, EDI is commemorating "the big 3-0" by planting 61 trees across Western New York. Planting began April 21 and extended over Earth Day (April 22) through Arbor Day (April 25), within the City of Buffalo. Arbor Day is a nationally-celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. it is celebrated yearly on the last Friday of April and coincides with the best time of year to plant trees. Re-Tree WNY and the City of Buffalo have been awarded the Project Award for 2008 by the National Arbor Day Foundation and will be accepting the award this Arbor Day weekend in Nebraska City, Nebraska. The first widespread planting of trees this season is to start on Saturday, May 3, 2008 when Re-Tree WNY volunteers will be planting trees in 16 communities along with 30 City blocks clubs. 2,100 trees will be planted in total. Re-Tree WNY was established to reforest the Buffalo area as a result of the devastating October 12-13, 2006 surprise snow storm. Re-Tree WNY will be planting a total of 30,000 trees over a five-year period and began the program on Arbor Day, 2007.
